My role
End-to-End Product Design & Design Lead — started as the sole designer, creating product redesign, design system; later led a design team as both design and tech lead, ensured quality control
Challenges & Goals
  • The existing design was outdated and didn’t account for field-specific conditions;
  • Need to redesign UX and UI for outdoor use;
  • Goal — create a modern, intuitive interface tailored to ergonomic and technical requirements, improving usability and user efficiency.
My contribution
  • Complete product redesign: analysis of the current version, feedback collection, issue identification;
  • Development of a new design system and UI components.
  • Full redesign of mimic diagrams, tables, charts, navigation, and menus;
  • Designed both tablet and desktop admin panel versions.
  • Close collaboration with the client, product owner, developers, and QA team;
  • Team management of designers during the support stage;
  • Quality control and design handoff to development.
Process
Research & analysis — audit of the existing design, user feedback collection, and field-use analysis;
Prototyping — creation of interactive prototypes adapted to device and environmental specifics;
UI design — redesign of all key screens:
  • Mimic diagrams — minimalist, modern, data-focused.
  • Trends (charts)
  • Measurements (tables)
  • Safety & alarms system
  • Settings
  • File export/import
  • About (with QR code)
  • Metrology;
Design System creation of a scalable component library
QA & testing — validation of readability and usability in real-world conditions;
Support & Improvements — onboarding additional designers and implementing enhancements.
Results
  • Released an updated version of the product optimized for extreme field conditions;
  • Improved readability and usability across all environments;
  • Successfully launched into sales, attracting new clients;
  • Existing clients received updates, noting improvements and modernized UI;
  • Increased product sales.
This project became an important milestone in my experience with B2B products for extreme operating environments.

I learned to factor in physical user limitations: working in gloves, cold temperatures, blinding light, and touch input challenges.

It was also my first experience designing tablet software, giving me deep insights into layout building and concept creation specifically for tablets — from ergonomics of interface elements to unique aspects of visual perception on different screen types.
